17 Jul 2011 The Day A Dream Came True

July 17th, 1955 was a great day for Walt Disney and for the world. This was the day that Disneyland opened in Anaheim California, a day Walt had dreamed of for many years.

Since this day, millions upon millions have experienced the “magic” of Walt Disney’s dream come true.

A trip to Disneyland may be an experience of a lifetime for some, a getaway adventure for others. But everyone who visits this famous theme park, definitely encounters an element of “magic”. The magic of a big dream come true.

Yes, it is an experience to visit Disneyland, but it is one that will only last a few days.

When you achieve YOUR dreams the experience will last a lifetime.

What you really want in your life is the experience of YOUR dream coming true right?

Recently I read a book entitled: “How to be like Walt”. This book is full of keys to living that magic life of dreams coming true that Walt Disney led. I highly recommend that you get a copy and devour it.

Today, let’s study three keys that are revealed in a statement made by Burris Jenkins Jr, Nearst Newspaper Columnist. (This is a quote from the book).

When Walt Disney dreams he doesn’t fool around. Furthermore he invariable makes his dreams come true – in a dozen different mediums.

Maybe it’s because I don’t know what is impossible commented Walt at lunch the other day.

I’ve found that those who know too much, don’t do much.

Did you spot the three keys to Walt’s success in this statement? If you didn’t, I challenge you to go back and read it again before you continue reading this article.

Ok, so here they are. Listen carefully, and then write down how you will apply these keys to your life.

1. When Walt dreams he doesn’t fool around.
Walt dreamed and he dreamed big. But he did not stay on his rocking chair dreaming into the sunset. Oh no, he was always creating plans of action and acting on his plans. He worked hard AND strategically. (Notice he did not just work hard – he worked strategically also).

2. He invariable makes his dreams come true.
The key word here is MAKES. You have to make your dream come true.

  • No one else cares about your dream like you do.
  • No one else will make your dream come true.
  • You have to do it. You have to take the necessary, strategic action to reach your dreams.

3. I have found that those who know too much, don’t do much.
It is good to learn and train and gather information. But you can always have too much of a good thing.

There are some people who spend their lives learning and learning, but they don’t DO anything.

  • Learning will not achieve your dreams. Action will.
  • Learning will give you the ideas and skills to develop your dreams.
  • Decisive disciplined and strategic action will take you on the journey to achieving your dreams.

Here’s a bonus key: It is found in Walt’s thinking process (or mindset).

He never allowed himself to think of any dream as
being impossible to achieve. To him, it was always POSSIBLE.

You too CAN see the day when your dreams come true, if you take action.

JilHave you started? What strategic action steps did you take today that will lead you to achieving your dreams?
