07 May 2010 Are You Giving Your Dream A Chance?

Asian BuffetToday I treated myself to an Asian Buffet and the meal of course came complete with the Chinese fortune cookie. The quote that came with the cookie was very interesting:

A dream will always triumph over reality, once it is given a chance.

This quote came inside of the proverbial fortune cookie, but what was written was NOT a fortune prediction, but a statement of wisdom.

The truth is you have had a dream since birth.
You were born with a seed in your heart – the seed of your destiny,
dream(s) and the purpose for your life.

Now notice I used the word “seed”. Yes you have always had your dreams in your heart, but it is very possible that you did not recognize them until later in life. Why? Because they were only little seeds.

What do you do with a seed? Plant it – right? Then you nurture it with water and sunshine until it fully matures. Once it is a mature plant it can be harvested and enjoyed.

  • What would happen if the seed was never planted?
  • What would happen if the seed never received any water or there was no goodness in the ground?

Remember the parable of the sower and the seed? There were four kinds of ground where the seed fell as the sower sowed.

  • The hard ground - where everyone tramples through the field and made a hard path.
  • The stony ground which was not too good either for the seeds to be able to grow. They can’t take root because of the stones.
  • The thorny ground. That one was a disaster. Both the good seed and the weeds grew but the weeds grew more and choked the good plants.
  • The good ground where the seed could grow into a health plant.

We could write a book on this!

What kind of ground is the seed of your dream trying to grow in?

The sower sower the seedThe hard ground that is full of negative words, thoughts and negative attitudes such as resentment, anger, fear and even violence?

The stony ground
which has a good measure of the same kind of atmosphere as the hard ground. The difference is there are at least some positive words and attitudes, but not enough for a health plant to grow.

The thorny ground. Oh my, this one is a mess! Both the good seed and the seeds of the weed grow together. But the weeds end up choking the good plants. Not a pretty sight.

This ground illustrates a person who tries to straddle both the negative and positive sides of life. They just don’t mix!

The good ground of course illustrates a person who is dedicated to making sure that their life is like the good ground.

So the moral of this story is:

  • YOU predict your future by your daily habits, words and thoughts.
  • You prepare the ground (or neglect it) for the seeds of your dreams.
  • You make the decision to nurture these seeds AND you take daily action on your decision.

JillThis means that you empower your dream and allow it to be fulfilled or you hinder it and allow it to die.

Are you giving your dream a chance to triumph?

16 Feb 2010 Your Words Predict Your Future

Your greatest asset or liability in life is your thinking process – John Maxwell.

This is a great reminder today of the creative (or destructive) power of yours and my words AND imaginations.

Globe We think with both words and pictures or impressions (imaginations). Imaginations are those dramas that we act out in our minds.

You and I were created in the image of God. One of God’s characteristics is that He creates with words. (Genesis chapter 1).

You and I also create (or destroy) with words. Consequently the words that you speak today decide where you find yourself tomorrow. How? Because your words either built your tomorrow or they destroyed it.

One of the great laws of this world we live in is the law of sowing and reaping.

Your words predict your harvest because your words are the seed for the future. – John Di Lemme

So what have you been saying and thinking lately? (Here’s a clue: where you find yourself today is the harvest of your words of yesterday.)

Every thought is a seed. If you plant crab apples, don’t count on harvesting Golden Delicious. ~Bill Meyer

Two thought provoking questions today:

  1. Do you REALLY want a harvest from everything you have spoken and thought today?
  2. Is your thinking process your greatest asset? Or is it your liability?

If you find you have a harvest coming you don’t want, it is time to pull out the weeds and start sowing the right seeds. Sow positive mind building, life building words into your life and the lives of those around you.

You can only do that when you immerse yourself with good positive books, audios, videos AND conversations every day.

One more thought provoking question today:
JillWhat am I listening to, watching and reading every day?
Everything you watch, hear, think and speak is a seed for tomorrow!
