09 Nov 2010 The Wall Came Tumbling Down

Berlin WallWell no, it did not tumble down immediately, but today is the anniversary of the beginning of the demolishing of a very historic wall – the famous Berlin Wall.

Yes, on November 9th, 1989 the borders between the West and East sides of Germany were opened and then Berlin Wall began to be dismantled in the days that followed.

If you are a Baby Boomer, I am sure that you remember this day quite vividly. It was a great triumph for Germany and for all of the families involved. The division between them was being pulled down.

When I checked the news this morning and found that today is a significant anniversary for the world a question came to my mind:

What borders do you have in your life
that may need to come down?

We all put up barriers across the years as we go through different experiences in life. But borders are not always good.

Healthy Boundaries
You and I need to have healthy boundaries. After all your life was not designed to be Grand Central Station.

You have your own life purpose and your dreams and this is your first priority. Of course your immediate family will fit into your life purpose in different ways.

You have your own responsibilities and consequently your daily life is filled with priorities. In order to fulfill those responsibilities you need to set boundaries so that you can focus on your priorities.

Your real friends will respect those boundaries. In fact they too will have their own boundaries as they lead their lives which will also be driven by their WHYs (their life passions and dreams). Then the time you can spend with these friends will be so much more valuable and enriched.

Unhealthy Boundaries
The unhealthy boundaries and borders are the ones that need to come down. These are those barriers that you may have put up because of old hurts in your life.

These barriers are shutting out the wrong people in your life and will cause problems in your present relationships.

Here is a challenge for you today.
Take a few minutes to reflect on your life. Ask yourself the following two questions:

  1. Do I have the right boundaries set in my life?

If not, make a decision to set them in place.

  2. Do I have the wrong borders built up in my life?

If you do, make a decision to tear them down. The first step to being able to tear the wrong borders down is to forgive.

Forgiveness is a decision. You decide to forgive and release the other person or people from your life.

JillWhen you have the right boundaries set and have torn down the wrong borders, you will experience so much more freedom in your life.

24 Sep 2010 Your Life Journey

Twisting Road Climbing a Mountain
Life is like a journey that will take you onto a variety of roads. Some parts of the journey will lead to breathtaking scenery, while other parts may lead you through treacherous condition or underground tunnels.

You must take personal responsibility. You cannot change the circumstances, the seasons, or the wind, but you can change yourself. That is something you have charge of. Jim Rohn

It is true, as Jim Rohn is quoted as saying, you cannot change the roads on your journey nor the conditions of the roads. You have to cross them to get to your destination. But you CAN change yourself.

What will changing yourself do?
It is often quoted: It is not what happens to you that counts, but what you DO with what happens to you. In other words, how you react to what happens depends on you AND this is what decides:

  • Whether you become bitter or better.
  • Whether you find the journey a challenge to be faced and overcome or a difficulty to be tolerated and complain about.
  • Whether you allow your character to be formed and matured to be able to enjoy the blessings that are waiting for you, or whether you sink into a bog of complaining and self pity along the road.

The road you are on now:
Your road might be very twisting at the moment or you might be in a tunnel and can barely see where you are going.

You might even be making your way through some areas that are under construction and you are sorely tempted to get impatient and frustrated. You want to reach your destination, and NOW and not have to deal with all of this upheaval caused by the construction.

However, it is really YOU that is under construction. You are being prepared and formed to become that person that will be able to carry and enjoy that success that is waiting for you at the top.

That process cannot be hurried!

Every part of the road that is leading you to your life purpose and your dreams is important.
Everything that you go through in life is strategically planned and crafted to make you the person you need to be when you do arrive at your destination, which is the achievement of your life purpose.

If you could reach your dreams and life purpose by helicopter (thus avoiding all of the twists, turns and frustrations of that windy road up the mountain), you would not be able to handle it when you got there.

How many people who have won the lottery stay rich for longer than 1 year?
Why? Because they were not able to handle riches. They had not been changed or formed to be able to live as a rich person. Their mindsets were not transformed. They had no idea how to handle riches, so they lost it all.

JillSo allow the journey to change you and prepare you to reach the top fully matured and able to handle the success that is waiting for you.
