22 Mar 2010 What To Do With Failure

Forest RoadFailure is a normal part of the road to success.

Someone said: “He who makes no mistakes does nothing.”

This is so true. To reach your success goals whatever they may be, you need to take action.

However the action you choose to take may not always be the correct one. But that’s ok. It is always much easier for God to guide you to the right place when you are moving, than it is if you are simply sitting with your arms folded “waiting”.

One of the greatest hindrances to reaching success in any area of your life is fear, and one of the things that is often feared is failure. Remember fear will paralyze you. So if you let fear take over, you will end up doing nothing right?

Failure Is A Stepping Stone To Success

There are at least three BENEFITS of failure as you journey towards your purpose in life and your success goals.

1. Failure always offers an opportunity to learn.
I believe it was Jim Rohn who said:

A college education will make you a living,
but self-education will make you a fortune.

Self education is ongoing. It often involves the method of learning by trial and error. Of course this is just one part of your self-education. Your learning program also includes your daily program of reading and listening to good instructional material, as well as being alert to every learning opportunity – right?

Every time you and I fail in something, we learn a valuable lesson. We learn what does not work. Remember Edison? How many times did he fail before he finally reached success? It was not just 10 or 20 times was it?

2. Failure offers an opportunity to exercise creativity.
Sometimes when something does not go right (or we just plain make a mistake) we are left with a great opportunity to exercise creativity (to rectify the situation or to get out of the hole we just fell into).

This is always a good thing. Every time you and I exercise a muscle, a talent or an ability – what happens? Of course, it gets stronger.

So here is a great opportunity to develop your creativity. Now it is time to find a way to recover from the error and continue to seek what WILL work. This may take some more experimenting or perhaps more research (or a little of both), as well as a whole lot of creativity. You can do it!

Whatever it takes – persist! Never give up and you WILL find what works. Again, remember the example Edison left us.

3. Failure may sometimes give you an opportunity to confront a weakness in your life.
Sometimes you may fail because of a personal weakness (for example procrastination, not listening to a warning, not reading the instructions etc).

This is a great time to confront this weakness and make a decision to eliminate it from your life. Because you are bold enough to face your weakness and conquer it, the failure quickly becomes an opportunity to improve your life right?

  • Are you ready to turn all failure into an opportunity?
  • Are you ready to eliminate any fear of failure from your life today?

JillLet’s take this learning process and turn it into a fortune!

10 Mar 2010 Do You Believe In Youself?

What you hear repeatedly you will eventually believe. Dr Mike Murdock.

Do you remember the statistics I shared yesterday – the ones that revealed the number of negative words versus positive words that school children SPEAK every day. The average was 72 positive comments to 684 negative ones.

There is a great likelihood that you grew up hearing (and thinking) a LOT more negative words than you did positive words. I know I did, and yet my sister and I count ourselves blessed to have had the parents we had.

The problem was that they too were surrounded with so much negative growing up that they did not know how to fully combat it.

So even though we were blessed with what could be counted as an “above average home”, a lot of negative influence was still able to creep into our lives.

These negative words and influences mixed up our belief system, especially when it came to believing in ourselves. (Not any more though!)

I am sure you have a lot of very positive and solid beliefs, but when it comes to believing in yourself how are you doing?

This is one of the areas of your life that has most likely been hit the most with all of the negative words you have heard and spoken.

Remember the quote for today?

What you hear repeatedly you will eventually believe. Dr Mike Murdock

It is highly likely that what you believe about yourself needs some tweaking – or perhaps it even needs a complete overhaul. You may well have heard a lot more negative comments about yourself over the years than you heard positive ones.

Consequently you have come to believe some of those negative comments even though they are lies.

It is time to turn that around right?

Here are some facts about YOU.

  • You are a champion!
  • You are in this world because you have something unique that only YOU can contribute.
  • What you can contribute to this world is of GREAT value.
  • There is an enemy who has taken it upon himself to destroy you because he only promotes all that is negative.

This is why it is so necessary to spend quality time every day listening to wholesome motivational recordings and reading great books that will empower you to discover and build up the champion in you.

Here are some of the recordings and books I have in my library:

  1. Download some great mp3s and mp4s from John Di Lemme (free downloads).
  2. Go to Christ Fellowship Archives
There you will find some free downloadable messages by John Maxwell. While you are there, I am sure you will find the messages by Tom and Todd Mullins challenging and inspiring also.
  3. Go to youtube and do a search for Tony Robbins and Jim Rohn. You will find some great snippets of videos from both of these motivators.
  4. Go to Wisdom Online. Here you will find some great free downloads about wisdom by Dr Mike Murdock.

And the book I read this week is a MUST READ – Go-Givers Sell More.

I have not yet read Bob Burg’s first book – The Go-Giver, but I will be picking up a copy of that one too.

JillI trust that you will find these suggestions to be a great addition to your motivational and inspirational library.
