22 Jun 2010 The Great Escape

Running awayDid you know our human minds are very capable of creating a way to escape a situation when life forces us to face things we really don’t want to.

What is an escape mechanism?
When you don’t really want to face a challenge or certain situation in life, your subconscious mind will find a way to avoid it.

This will happen especially if you have allowed fear to take over. Depending on the strength of your resistance to the situation, your subconscious may go to very drastic measures to avoid the challenge or responsibility.

So the plan of escape that your subconscious mind invented will be stored away for future use also. Now this plan has become an escape mechanism, ready to spring out and defend you by allowing you to escape from unpleasant situations in the future.

How will this escape mechanism “defend” you?
This plan will not only to be used to avoid this present situation, but also your mind will draw upon it to escape from future circumstances that are similar to the present one.

The subconscious mind
is very powerful and is even capable of allowing sickness into your life if it means your being able to escape from an unpleasant task. This is the escape mechanism, and can be very powerful, and as you can see it can also be dangerous. Of course this plan will only provide temporary “relief” and a pseudo peace.

How can you avoid the dangerous of any hidden subconscious schemes?

The key motivation that will drive your mind to find an escape mechanism is fear.

We were created to walk with God in faith and all the fruits that go with faith (love, joy peace).

Fear will corner you and your mind will look for a way of escape.

When you allow fear to take over your life, your mind has to find a way back to peace and it will, even though it may be a pseudo peace and in reality only a temporary relief.

For example: it may allow you to become sick so you can escape the responsibility of a situation. Of course this is only a temporary “solution”.

There is an interesting verse found in Proverbs 23:7 that says: “for as he thinks in his heart, so is he”

The word “thinks” in this verse is translated from the Hebrew word “gatekeeper”.

Your mind is the gatekeeper for all of your body and your life.

This means that it is your mind that decides what will touch your body and your life! This is a VERY powerful truth.

>> You have control over your mind.
>> You decide what to think.

You can avoid allowing your mind to stray over into the negative field of life. How?

You decide what to think – and what you think decides how you live!

Are you consciously deciding what to think today?

27 May 2010 Your Health Depends On How You Handle Stress

Sick Nite on FlickrDoes this sound a little drastic? How you handle stress determines the state of your health!

Consider this:
Harvard study reports those who cope poorly with stress become ill more often than those who cope well with it. (Source Lynn Smith on Facebook)

Most medical researchers and practitioners today agree that stress does play a big role in your health. However, it is really not so much the stress that affects your body, but how you and I handle that stress.

Stress is very much a part of life, especially in this modern world in which we live. It is unavoidable, BUT you and I CAN avoid allowing these pressures to control our lives and our bodies.

How you handle stress depends on your mindset.
With a strong mindset of faith, it will always be easier to face life’s difficulties with a positive attitude. Your mind will then be clearer to look for solutions rather than dwelling on the problem and the stress.

When your mind is clear, alert and focused on seeking solutions and instead of focusing on the problem, then your mind is operating as a gatekeeper to your emotions and your body.

It is very interesting to note that in the book of Proverbs in the Bible we find a verse that says:
For as he thinks in his hearth so is he. (Proverbs 23:7)

If you look into the Hebrew word that is translated as “thinks” you will find that this word comes from a root word which means “to act as a gate keeper”. Very interesting right?

Yes your mind is the gatekeeper!

Your mind is created to protect your emotions and your body.

Conclusion? YOU decide how much stress will affect your emotions and your body. It all depends on:

Your focus –
Focus on looking for solutions and it will be easier to think clearer and positively.
Focus on the problem and your mind will sink into depression which means the “gatekeeper” goes off duty and your emotions and body can be touched by the stress.

  • Mindset is a result of what you focus on.
  • Focus is a result of decision (your will should always be in control).

If you have extreme stress, use it – don’t let it use you. Tony Robbins.
