Just yesterday as I was traveling on the bus I had my notebook (journal) on my knee with a pencil to jot down some ideas for blog posts.
I read through my notes from recent motivational conferences I have listened to and and wrote down some extra comments and then suddenly I had a great idea for something I was working on.
The bus came to my destination and so I got off and went on to follow the day’s schedule. Later that afternoon at home, I sat down to revise my notes looking for that great idea I remembered having early that morning. Oh no! It was not written down and I could not remember what it was!
Something had distracted me and I lost focus long enough not write it down!
I was not too happy with myself. Why had I not written down that idea?
Two key words: distracted and focus.
It is imperative to carry a notebook with you everywhere you go (or even a voice note recorder which is what I often do) to catch those flash ideas or “brain waves” as we often call them. And it is equally imperative to focus on these ideas long enough to at least write them down when they do come
So here is today’s challenge (for you and me:)
Make the effort to focus on what you are doing and don’t let any distraction take your mind away from those great ideas that come to you.
