22 Sep 2010 Wasting Time

WasteHave you ever spent a day or part of a day doing something or many things of no real consequence only to ask yourself at the end of the day: What DID I actually achieve today?

Then another similar day happens where once again you come to the end of the day with nothing really achieved. Your list of things to do is still in tact with nothing crossed off.

Your day flew by and you have nothing to show for it. Then as this cycle repeats itself in your life (and it will, if you don’t stop it), you find that your days flew by and there is still nothing to show for them.

Anne Dillard is quoted as saying:

How we spend our days, is of course how we spend our lives.

They may have been ACTIVE days, but the real question is: Were they productive days? And the answer is? No.

Here’s a shocking reality! Those days have gone forever!

Unless ….

Unless what? Unless you take this experience, learn from it and make a decision to change.

Of course you don’t stop with the decision. The next step is action!

Action Steps
You have contemplated the fact that days are becoming weeks and weeks months and you still have not achieved the things you dream about right?

Now take a clean sheet of paper, or a new page in your journal and write down your life purpose, your why.

In what way do you really want to make a difference in this world?
This might be something like building a heritage for your children, giving a child in a third world country the opportunity to study and fulfill his or her dreams in life or perhaps starting a foundation to motivate children and/or teens to go after their dreams. You know what you have in your heart.

Now write a list of the things that you dream about achieving in the next year or two.

Now take a look at what you have written down and ask yourself:

If I continue to allow my days to waste away, when will I achieve these dreams and goals?

Your answer will startle you and I trust inspire you to ACTION.

What action?

  • Create some goals based on what you have written down.
  • Look at your goals and write down some things that you could do to start moving towards them.
  • Create an action plan from the things you have already written down.
  • Set yourself a deadline for each step of your action plan. Be realistic.
  • Start following your plan today and continue to take at least one step every day.

Never again will you end a day with the question: What did I actually achieve today?

Instead you will have the satisfaction of knowing that you took ONE STEP towards achieving your dreams and your life purpose.

Consider the words of Henry Ford

“It has been my observation that most people get ahead during the time that others waste.”

The question is: Which group are you are part of?
JillIf you take action on these steps today, you have joined the group of people who are getting ahead – and I am confident that this is YOU.

19 Jul 2010 Words You Never Want To Speak

Don't speakThis evening I was listening to a motivational call with John Di Lemme.

He was talking about the negative statements which include “used to be”. “The used to bes” are very dangerous words, and need to be eliminated from yours and my daily vocabulary.

You never want to be found pronouncing any “used to bes” nor do you want to spend your days listening to them.

Why is this so important?

“Used to bes” feed doubt and destroy faith.
When you stop working on a positive daily habit, it is because you have lost hope that you will see results from this daily habit.

If you have fallen into this pit, it is because you have stopped believing in you they were doing. When this happens the next step down is to fall into cynicism and then bitterness.

“Used to bes” reveal fear and increase fear.
Once you start saying things like: “I used to exercise every day but now I just don’t have the motivation” or “I used to read the Bible and good challenging books all the time. But now, I have just lost heart”.

Can you see how fear is intertwined in these comments? They are really saying: “I fear I have lost my vision, my dream, my health and my way in life”.

Do you catch yourself saying “I used to be …” You CAN change that. How?

  1. Face it! Recognize that you have fallen into the “used to be” trap.
  2. Desire! You need to REALLY want to change.
  3. Decision! Make a decision. Any lasting change in yours and my life requires a change of habit. This takes time – it is a process. The process starts with a strong decision.
  4. Commitment. Commit to a daily dedicated process of training that includes reading, listening to good life changing books and recordings and speaking the right words. Speak positive affirmations over your own life and your dreams.
  5. Remember that the moment you decided to cancel all negative words and thoughts from your life, you declared war. By default it is the negative forces, negative words and fear that rules in this world.
War means there will be a fight.
Don’t allow your emotions to rule.
Your will (your decision power) must rule at all times.

When you commit to a process that will change your daily habits, your life will change. There is no overnight fix that will last. It is a process and it does take time.

JillI believe in you. I am sure that you will make this decision and commitment because I know that you are a champion.
