19 Jul 2010 Words You Never Want To Speak

Don't speakThis evening I was listening to a motivational call with John Di Lemme.

He was talking about the negative statements which include “used to be”. “The used to bes” are very dangerous words, and need to be eliminated from yours and my daily vocabulary.

You never want to be found pronouncing any “used to bes” nor do you want to spend your days listening to them.

Why is this so important?

“Used to bes” feed doubt and destroy faith.
When you stop working on a positive daily habit, it is because you have lost hope that you will see results from this daily habit.

If you have fallen into this pit, it is because you have stopped believing in you they were doing. When this happens the next step down is to fall into cynicism and then bitterness.

“Used to bes” reveal fear and increase fear.
Once you start saying things like: “I used to exercise every day but now I just don’t have the motivation” or “I used to read the Bible and good challenging books all the time. But now, I have just lost heart”.

Can you see how fear is intertwined in these comments? They are really saying: “I fear I have lost my vision, my dream, my health and my way in life”.

Do you catch yourself saying “I used to be …” You CAN change that. How?

  1. Face it! Recognize that you have fallen into the “used to be” trap.
  2. Desire! You need to REALLY want to change.
  3. Decision! Make a decision. Any lasting change in yours and my life requires a change of habit. This takes time – it is a process. The process starts with a strong decision.
  4. Commitment. Commit to a daily dedicated process of training that includes reading, listening to good life changing books and recordings and speaking the right words. Speak positive affirmations over your own life and your dreams.
  5. Remember that the moment you decided to cancel all negative words and thoughts from your life, you declared war. By default it is the negative forces, negative words and fear that rules in this world.
War means there will be a fight.
Don’t allow your emotions to rule.
Your will (your decision power) must rule at all times.

When you commit to a process that will change your daily habits, your life will change. There is no overnight fix that will last. It is a process and it does take time.

JillI believe in you. I am sure that you will make this decision and commitment because I know that you are a champion.

09 Jun 2010 Why Do You Need To Control?
 |  Topic: Fear  | Tags: , , , , , ,  | Leave a Comment

Fearful dogOk, its probably not you that needs to control, but we could still ask the question: Why do so many people need to control?

For many years I have thought and taught that the emotion that drives people to want to control others is insecurity. However much of my recent studies and research has led me to an interesting discovery.

Let’s consider the following question:
How is an insecure person most likely to react when they are faced with a situation that challenges their security? The reflex action is often to try and change the situation right?

If you are faced with a situation that you find yourself instantly trying to change, what emotion do you think is is driving that reaction?

Insecurity? Or could it be a little panic (fear)? I think the latter, what do you think?

An insecure person does not like change in their lives right?

So what is it they will fear the most? Change!

The driving motivation for all of your negative actions and reactions:
The more I study, observe and learn about the driving motivation for our actions and reactions, the more I understand that fear is the main root to ALL of your and my negative actions and reactions.

For example:
an insecure person wants to control others (and situations) so that they can feel secure. Why do they have such a need to feel secure? Because they fear change.

How can they feel secure? By avoiding change (or trying to). They achieve that by controlling situations and people.

What is the driving force behind these reactions?
Their biggest fear is the fear of change.

Another apparent reason for controlling others is lost identity. Many folk seek to find their identity in those around them.

This situation is very often found in families where the parents try to find their identity in their children. They insist on their child being a doctor, lawyer or salesperson because this is what THEY wanted to do and they never “had the opportunity” to fulfill it.

These folk fear they have lost their opportunity to fulfill their identity and now they want to make sure the same does not happen to their children. In their zeal, they overlook the fact that their child may not be called to be a doctor, lawyer or salesperson. So a great pressure of control is applied to the child’s life.

Your identity is found in discovering and fulfilling who YOU were created to be, it is never found in lording it over others.
Again, the real reason for control is not so much lack of identity – but FEAR.

Can you see that the more you explore the roots of your reactions, actions and attitudes, the more you will discover that the negative ones are all rooted in fear, just as the positive reactions, actions and attitudes are rooted in faith?

We can certainly conclude by affirming that your life is build on ONE of two main foundations.

FAITH or FEAR.

When you live in FAITH, then you will have the courage to discover and fulfill your OWN identity. And, by the way, it is NEVER too late to do that!

If you build your life on fear then you will be plagued with insecurity, anger and a host of other negative emotions. You may even find yourself trying to control others around you in an attempt to discover your own identity and security.

But real security and true identity is found in finding and fulfilling YOUR own destiny.
