When you are faced with an immense challenge which involves a seemingly impossible situation, the temptation may be to ask: What can one person possibly do to make a difference here?

Well in the face of this past week’s terrible earthquake in Christchurch, NZ, one young lad Louis Brown did not stop to ask such a question. (Photos from NZ TV News).

Instead he rounded up his friends (a group of about 12), who in turn rounded up more and soon they had an army of 15,000 (today’s count is actually 18,000) all ready to help face the impossible and make a difference! All thanks to:

The initiative of one young man – and

The viral nature of the internet.

This army is going out every day into areas of the city helping to clean up the mud and silt, helping people in their homes.

This is an incredible example of what you CAN do when your focus is on making a difference in the lives of others.

Here is a challenge for you today: (and I challenge myself too).
What is the central focus of your life?

Here is a clue:

If your WHY is centered only on what YOU want, you are missing the real purpose of life.

What is the central REAL purpose of our lives?
To make a difference in the lives of others!

Are you focused on making a difference in the lives of others? If not, I challenge you to start focusing in that direction, it will change your life!

There is not a successful person on this planet who has not tasted failure many many times.

Some millionaires were forced to declare bankruptcy and not just once on their journey to success.

And of course we have the example of Edison who “failed” almost 1000 times before he reached the success he was seeking. He never looked at anything that did not work as a “failure”. They were all discoveries of things that did not work.

The other day I went to my favorite local Asian buffet for lunch. Of course there is always a fortune cookie that comes with the bill. I pulled out the little piece of paper to find an interesting inscription:

Good people are good because they’ve come to wisdom through failure.

Now that is profound, yet so true. But there is another truth here. They CHOOSE to use their failure to come to this wisdom.

Failure can make you bitter or better. The choice is yours.

You can use failure to succeed in life and become a wiser, better person or you can let failure use you and throw you into the pit of excuses and regrets. The choices is yours!

It was Henry Ford who said:
Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, this time more intelligently.

I have a challenge for you today
What are YOU doing with the failures in your life?

I am involved in a 210 Day Affirmation Challenge with Lifestyle Freedom Club

One of the affirmations is:
I am making Miracles out of my past Mistakes.

I like that!!

Are you up for this challenge?
Are you making miracles out of your past mistakes? Or are you making you making excuses of your past mistakes? The choice is yours!

Take a look at the picture I used today. This guy sat down and accepted failure so close to the goal! How many times do people give up JUST before reaching success?

Don’t let that person be you!

Take a look at the quote on this picture.

Most of the important things in the world have been achieved by people who kept trying when there seemed to be no hope at all!

Does that challenge and encourage you? I trust it does. Today I have been studying some of the famous quotes about persistence.

There are so many good quotes many by famous (and not so famous, but nevertheless successful) people that will both challenge and encourage you. They challenge you to keep going and encourage you to know that when you do keep going, you have an excellent chance of succeeding!

Look what Elbert Hubbard said:

A little more persistence, a little more effort, and what seemed hopeless failure may turn to glorious success.

This really compliments the first quote (for which we do not have an author). There is no doubt about it, if you don’t give up, you HAVE to succeed.

Have you been working hard on a project yet still don’t see the end? Keep going!

Have you been trying to start a business or a foundation? Are you working towards achieving your dreams, yet somehow it LOOKS like nothing is working out for you?

Keep going! Use that determination that you have and persist and it WILL work out for you.

Louis Pasteur used his determination to persist and here is what he says: Let me tell you the secret that has led me to my goal: my strength lies solely in my tenacity.

Let’s follow the example of these great men and women who became great not so much because they achieved the success they are known for, but because they NEVER gave up.

Don’t be discouraged. It’s often the last key in the bunch that opens the lock. ~Author Unknown

May you find that last key soon!
