Have you ever had this experience:
You are reading the Bible and suddenly you receive a totally new understanding about something you are reading.
You are excited about what you “saw” and understood and so a little later you want to share this with a friend or family member. But you find you have totally forgotten what it was. How frustrating.
There is a reason for this:
Many many years ago I heard a teaching that revealed why a revelation can be quickly forgotten.
By “revelation” I mean that discovery of something you had not seen before as you read the Bible. It can also be a new understanding of something you have read many times before.
You see something you had never seen before, or understand something in a new light. It usually comes in a flash like a ray of light.
So why is it that revelation can be so easily forgotten?
Revelation is light. Light comes and goes in a flash. Light is hard to captivate.
Inspiration is thought. Thoughts can be filed in the archives of mind.
So the key is to turn that revelation (which is light) into inspiration.
How can you do that?
Take a few moments to focus on that revelation. Mediate on it. In this way, the revelation is turned into thought and so can be stored in your mind to be remembered.
So, next time you get a “flash” of new understanding – a revelation, stop and focus on it for a few minutes.
Meditate on it, and it will become a part of your life.
