I had a co-worker in Mexico who would always meet any challenge in life with the words: “Every problem has a solution”.
To be honest, when I first met him, I did not always enjoy hearing that
There were times when I wanted shake him saying “but you just don’t understand”.
But I have finally learned that this is true. Every problem DOES have a solution.
The question is though, in a time of stress how DO you find the solution?
Stress and fear are the enemies of creativity.
When a situation arises, one of the easiest initial reactions is to fear or allow stress to take over.
Both of these emotions will cloud your mind and not allow you to think creatively.
When I was growing up the traditional reaction to any hi-stress situation that arose was always to go and put the kettle on to make a cup of tea. A cup of tea seemed to solve everything.
Now that I am older I realize that it was not the cup of tea that was the solution, but it was that “regrouping time” that you took while drinking the cup of tea.
- It is good to stop, take a deep breath and relax in whatever way works for you – whether it is with a cup of tea (or glass of fruit juice). Do make sure that you chose something healthy though.
- Take a brief walk away from the situation if you can. This helps to refocus.
- Take some time aside to pray, meditate, read your favorite scripture verse or motivational quote will also help you to refocus.
the impact of the problem that arose.
Once your mind is clearer, make a DECISION that you are NOT going to think about the problem, but rather you are going to look for solutions.
the less stressful the problem will be.
- Take a sheet of paper and divide it into three columns.
- Write down all of the possible solutions in the first column.
- Then write down the pros in the next column and the cons in the third column.
This will give you a good visual panorama of your possible solutions and will also help to clarify your mind.
Above all, never lose sight of this fact: Every problem DOES have a solution.
