I am sure you are familiar with the story of the 10 plagues that God brought upon Egypt when Pharaoh refused to let God’s people go.
The first plague was the water turned to blood. Pharaoh reacted to it with scorn. His magicians used their secret arts to imitate this. So his heart was hardened.
Then came the plague of frogs. Frogs were everywhere. Pharaoh sends for Moses asking him to beg the Lord to take away this plague and he would let the people go.
Here’s what stood out to me today.
As soon as Pharaoh saw that there was a respite (the frogs were taken away), he hardened his heart and changed his mind. He decided NOT to let God’s people go. (Words in italics quoted from Exodus 8:15).
This started me thinking.
How many times do we get into a scrape or difficult situation of some kind and cry out to God with all kinds of promises. “If you will get me out of this Lord, I will do whatever You want”, sort of promise. Or perhaps we go to a friend for help, making them a promise that we will return the favor (or whatever).
Then as soon as we get out of the situation, we quickly forget the promise we made and go on our merry way.
How many promises have you made to the Lord, to your family, to friends or colleagues only to forget when your circumstances changed?
I am thinking about this one today – are you?
