 |  Category: Goals  | Tags: , , , , ,

Target on FlickrIn the “The Principal Of Goals”, on page 53 of the book Lead On”, John Haggai makes and interesting statement about goals:

Goal setting can revive mental and physical health:
“A great part of nervous tension is caused as a result of confusion and fear. Having set goals tends to eliminate confusion and overcome fear.” (Note: I am reading from the spanish copy of the book, Lead On, so the page number may be slightly different).

Then he goes on to quote from the book Getting Well Again by Dr O Carl Simonton. Doctor Stephanie Matthews de Simonton emphasizes that the setting of goals and pursuing them is one of the most important therapies and has the best success in combating cancer”.

Wow! Why would this be?

Goals help you avoid confusion and indecision.

Both of confusion and indecision affect the body negatively, which of course will affect your health.

When you and I do not have any fixed goals it is easy to fall into confusion and indecision. This results in nervous tension which affects our health of course.

Goals raise your focus to a future hope.
When you have goals set, and then you focus on reaching them, your eyes are set on a bright future. This brings hope, and scientists have proven that we all need hope to be able to live.

The will to live is essential to combat any sickness.
We all need something and/or someone to live for. I sadly remember talking to a friend in NZ (by phone) who was battling cancer and she made this comment:

“I really don’t have anyone to live for.” She had lost hope.

Hope is critical for healthy living. When you set goals and work towards achieving them you have something to live for.

JillOf course you want to make sure that the goals you set are things you REALLY want to achieve.
