31 Mar 2010 A Refreshing Day

Today was a beautiful day in central Texas. The sun was shining, the temperature went up to the low 80s and once the chilly wind subsided it was a perfect day.

Texas BluebonnetThe day was so beautiful that I decided it was time for a break, especially after a mini marathon of very early mornings and steady days. So an hours trip out to run an errand turned into a full day of exploring a few wild flowers – I actually found one bluebonnet :) Then it was time to check out “Whole Foods” salad for lunch followed by desert and coffee at Panera Bread.

Texas Wild FlowersGoal Setting Steps Include Rewards:

One of the very important steps in goal setting and action planning is to make sure that you take time to reward yourself for each step of progress you make. Some steps may be larger than others and perhaps can result in a larger reward :)

But whatever you do, do SOMETHING special, out of the ordinary at least once in a while.

Sometimes the tendency is to think:
What I get this finished I will ……………. or
When I achieve this ……….. I will ………….. (I am sure you can fill in the blanks).

In other words sometimes we can fall into the trap of thinking that we need to achieve major steps towards achieving goals before we can reward ourselves.

I know I have been guilty, and I have also discovered that all that you DO achieve when you follow this pattern is:

you end up worn out – or worse still – burn out.

JillWhen was the last time you treated yourself to an out of routine day with a special treat or two? What do you like to do for a special day away from it all?

30 Mar 2010 A Video Packed With Wisdom
 |  Topic: Famous Quotes  | Tags: ,  | One Comment

One of the most influential inspirational speakers and business philosophers that ever lived was the late Jim Rohn. All of his teachings were packed with wisdom.

You don’t have to listen to any of the well known motivational speakers today for very long before you will hear them mention Jim Rohn.

He was greatly honored and respected by multitudes. I have just finished reading The Power of Focus by Jack Canfield, Mark Victor Hanson and Les Hewitt and the last chapters contained one of Jim Rohn’s famous quotes:

Let others lead small lives, but not you.
Let others argue over small things, but not you.
Let others cry over small hurts, but not you.
Let others leave their future in someone else’s hands, but not you.

As you watch this video that contains many other well known quotes, what stands out the most to you? You might have to watch it more than once (I know I did).

Here is one that I really like:

Develop character before prosperity.
